Four-Eighty is a speculative home designed for a builder in the University District of East Memphis.
Several features make this 3 bed, 2.5 bath unique. To start, the lower level is split between a large open-concept living space and an enormous, private, 600 sf master suite, which includes a laundry room and oversize closets. Because of the tight, suburban footprint of the house, the master bedroom is able to support windows on 3 sides, creating an important connection with the outdoors. The master bathroom under skylight, features a fully tiled “wet room” which includes a ceiling-mounted, raincan showerhead.
The Family Room and Dining Room are linked into a singular volume with an open steel stair feature and steel fireplace with shiplap surround. The front door is wrapped in a storefront of glass, creating a clean, contemporary experience within the traditional looking form. The kitchen slides out from the plan to create a side entry and connects views to the back patio through a floor-to-ceiling picture window. Upstairs there are two guest bedrooms with walk-in closets,
The plan is extremely compact for the variety of spatial experiences it provides. The project came in under budget and serves a wonderful young family to rave reviews.
